I hate all your show and pretense
The hypocrisy of your praise
The hypocrisy of your festivals
I hate all your show
Away with your noisy worship
Away with your noisy hymns
I stop up my ears when your singing ‘em
I hate all your show
Instead let there be a flood of justice
An endless procession of righteous living, living
Instead let there be a flood of justice
Instead of a show
Your eyes are closed when you’re praying
You sing right along with the band
You shine up your shoes for services
But there’s blood on your hands
You turned your back on the homeless
And the ones that don’t fit in your plans
Quit playing religion games
There’s blood on your hands
Ah! let’s argue this out
If your sins are blood red
Let’s argue this out
You’ll be white as the clouds
Let’s argue this out
Quit fooling around
Give love to the ones who can’t love at all
Give hope to the ones who got no hope at all
Stand up for the ones who can’t stand up at all
Instead of a show
I hate all your show
What do you think? Do you think maybe this is what God thinks of our worship sometimes?

Yea i'd say he probably DOES think that at times!
Sometimes though, particularly for the music team, judgement shouldn't be passed. In fact, judgement should NEVER be passed!
I struggle constantly being in our music team that people are judging me for 'putting on a show' when really, all i want is to praise God with all that i am.
How do you praise God and give him your all without coming across as 'putting on a show', if that's the way you praise God?
It's definitely not about me and i would HOPE people are drawn to God and NOT me but it makes it hard, particularly to lead when people constantly criticise eachother for the way they praise God.
When we learn to mind our own business and focus on devoting our praise to God, maybe then we might learn to love more and criticise less.
I dunno....
Good points Alisha!
What I got out of this song wasn't about what our worship looks like, whether we raise our hands or "put on a show", but more about do we go and worship God (in whatever way, shape or form) every Sunday, and then sit by the whole week not caring about the injustice in this world. Does our worship become all about us?
I remember there being some scripture (maybe in Isaiah?.. i should prob look this up) about God saying that our worship is meaningless. This isn't making any comment about how we do worship, or worship leading, but more about our individual relationships with God, and in turn reflects the attitude of the church in general.
As we worship Him more, and learn more about His heart, we will see that to worship Him and not pursue love, mercy and justice is actually not worshipping Him at all.
Just a thought :-)
oopppss... I didn't mean to say that the verse in Isaiah says our worship is meaningless...
I meant to say it says its meaningless unless with pursue justice etc...
thought I should correct that one! lol.
Love it.
Kinda reminds me of Isaiah 58. About fasting.
